Brothers Emmett and Brendan Malloy have added a new feather to their collective cap. In addition to creating critically acclaimed films, music videos for some of the biggest artists of our time, and commercials for the likes Nike, Google, and Budweiser, the directorial duo are turning their attention to handmade, small batch, craft beer.
Introducing M.Special, a California microbrewery producing classic, high quality beer for the local and regional market. While most craft breweries focus in on heavier, hoppier IPA-style brews, M.Special is interested in creating a lighter, crisper, American lager that’s made with great ingredients. “We grew up drinking domestic lagers out of cans, and want to keep that spirit with the beer that we’re putting out there, so we’re making an American lager,” said Brendan.
Named in honor of their late grandfather’s race car, The Malloy Special, and founded alongside their cousin Chris Miller, M.Special aims to offer a unique brand of beer with a brewery and tap room on-site that will be utilized as a hub for live music and events.
Setting up in Santa Barbara County, the Brewery will produce pale ales and stouts in addition to the aforementioned lager. The Malloys have been very hands-on throughout the entire process, “You have such an attention to detail being a director and you want everything to look just right, so we 100% put a ton of effort into all of the packaging, all the artwork, the merchandise that we’re doing, the build out and location.”
M.Special opens its doors in September, 2015.
