Hamish Rothwell directs Justin Timberlake and Christopher Walken in Bai’s Super Bowl spot

A weird and wonderful commercial for advertising's biggest day of the year.

Hamish Rothwell‘s humorous campaign for Bai stood out amongst this year’s Super Bowl commercials, and landed the top rated spot on Ad Age as well as Creativity’s Editor’s Pick.

The low-calorie beverage company featured the brand’s Chief Flavor Officer, Justin Timberlake, and the one and only Christopher Walken in a weird and wonderful spot for the antioxidant-infused drink.

In it, the legendary actor sits beside a roaring fire, staring straight into the camera, poignantly reciting the lyrics to *NSYNC’s 2000 hit ‘Bye Bye Bye’. As Walken looks to his right we see the straight-faced *NSYNC alum, Timberlake, sitting beside him, clad in a dapper smoking jacket looking very expressive. And then it all sinks in.

“Justin Timberlake doesn’t even need to speak to be funny,” Ad Age tweeted. On site they added, “Christopher Walken returns to the Super Bowl ad roster … delivering another winning performance.”

The spot aired during the second quarter of the Super Bowl, but you can relive it right here:

Directorial duo The Malloys also helmed an impactful Super Bowl spot. There’s, for XFinity, showed the future of awesome and it had something for everyone; from minions, to the NBA, to Orange is the New Black and even viral cat videos.
