David LaChapelle and Sergei Polunin’s new collaboration is a stunning ballet

Project Polunin premieres this week at Sadler’s Wells, and will go on to tour internationally.

David LaChapelle teams up once again with famed Ukranian dancer Sergei Polunin for a staggering triple bill performance.

LaChapelle and Polunin worked together previously on the minimalist dance-focused music video for Hozier’s “Take Me to Church” that was viewed over 18 million times on YouTube alone. Now, in an exquisite celebration of art, music, and dance, the two are in collaboration again for an “existential emotional journey,” as composer Ilan Eshkeri told explained to the Guardian.

In speaking with the Guardian in their exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the production, David LaChapelle discusses the experience: “The final tech rehearsals with orchestra, lighting, costumes and choreography all coming together was a wonderful moment, to see all this talent and creativity living and breathing as one thing was incredible.”

Modern meets classical in the breathtaking performance co-created by LaChapelle, Polunin, and Eshkeri, with choreography by Andrey Kaydanovskiy. The show is in its first round of performances at Sadler Wells and will go on to tour around the world.
